Question: When will we know what our insurance will look like for next year, 2023?
Answer: We are fast approaching my favorite time of year, the annual open enrollment period for Medicare insurance products. People with Medicare will be receiving the 2023 information packs in the coming weeks. Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare prescription drug plans, and Medicare supplements all have slightly different prices and coverage benefits each year.
These changes are announced October 1 for the upcoming year 2023. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires insurance companies to notify you of any changes in New Year’s coverage by October 1. During the next few weeks of September, you will receive a letter from your insurance company letting you know what 2023 coverage looks like for this plan. When you get this new information for 2023, focus on the evolution of your insurance coverage.
October 1 is when all Medicare-related insurance products release their information allowing individuals to compare their alternatives for the New Year. The www.medicare.gov
Then, on October 15, the annual open registration period really begins. This is the date on which you can make a change to your insurance cover for the first time, which will take effect on 1-1-2023. From October 15 through December 7 each year, people enrolled in Medicare and its accompanying insurance products can review and change their insurance to a product that will work better for them in the new year.
When you’re on Medicare, you’ll notice an increase in the amount of mail (and possibly email) you receive in the coming weeks. This letter contains important information about the insurance product you already have. This mail also contains information on many other products that are available to you.
Your medical situation may have changed very little. You still need to evaluate your insurance decision. This assessment always begins with your current coverage. Do you like to? Is he still available? Does the pricing structure remain fairly similar when it comes to premiums and co-payments for medical care and drugs? Did it cover your medications easily and affordably and will it still be affordable next year?
In considering these questions, if all the answers are “Yes” you can probably keep your current coverage and let it roll until 2023. Some years have passed, there are plans that are no longer offered, we’ll know soon for 2023. In previous years there have been plans who change their name. Almost every year we have one or two new plans offered. These are things to watch out for.
Your mailbox could see more activity in the coming weeks and more television advertising as well.
I just remind you to watch your mailbox and inbox for insurance information for 2023. Don’t throw away everything that comes. Be sure to open your current insurance company information, this is important information about your upcoming year. This information will help you decide if you want to keep the same coverage or change it.
I can’t wait to see what’s new and exciting in 2023. My wish is that premiums go down and coverage goes up for everyone. Happy insurance season!
