Swiftcover Car Insurance Review – Forbes Advisor UK

Who is Swiftcover?

Swiftcover is a ‘no frills’ auto and home insurance provider. It was the first to offer a completely online service when it launched in 2005, meaning you can take out and manage a Swiftcover policy without having to pick up a phone.

Since 2007, Swiftcover has been owned by AXA. Its policies are underwritten by AXA Insurance UK Plc, which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Why should I consider Swiftcover?

Swiftcover offers two types of car insurance: standard and plus. Both types of policies cover the following as standard:

  • Flight
  • Fire
  • Damage to cars and property of others
  • Injury to others
  • Radios and GPS
  • Driving in other European countries

However, Switcover’s plus option includes extras including courtesy car, bad fuel cover, stolen key cover and travel cover.

You can choose to add the following optional extras to either policy level:

  • Discount protection in the event of no claim: allows you to keep your no-claims discount for future policies even if you have to make a claim
  • Legal coverage: covers you for all legal fees if you have an accident for which you are not responsible
  • Courtesy car: provides access to a small car if yours is off the road and under repair
  • Courtesy car upgrade: a courtesy car similar in size to your own vehicle
  • Individual Accident and Rehabilitation: pays up to £100,000 in the event of accidental injury in your car
  • Failure recovery: provides roadside assistance and breakdown assistance in the event of a breakdown during a trip (four levels of breakdown guarantee available)

Swiftcover’s standard font comes with a three-star Defaqto rating, while its plus font comes with a five-star rating.

How to contact Swiftcover

Swiftcover can be contacted by telephone between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, on 0330 024 6394.

The company can also be found on Facebook or contacted via Twitter @swiftcover.

Alternatively, you can manage a Swiftcover policy online by opening a Swift Space account.

Find the best coverage for you

When comparing car insurance policies, the annual premium listed is one of the most important factors to consider. However, simply choosing the cheapest policy may not provide the level of cover you need and put you at risk of being underinsured.

Always consider the level of cover offered by each policy and check what is included as standard.

For example, if you plan to add extras to a less comprehensive “cheaper” font, it may not be the best value.

Also consider reliable customer reviews from drivers who have already made a claim.

Why it makes sense to compare policies and providers

In January 2022, regulator the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) introduced new regulations that prevent car (and home) insurance companies from charging existing customers a higher renewal price than what new customers would pay for an equivalent font.

However, it still makes sense to shop around for your auto insurance policy whenever it’s time to renew. You may still be able to get a better price than the renewal quote you are offered for the appropriate level of coverage.
