GEICO’s 38 California offices were closed and phone sales in the state were halted. According to a press release given to Sacramento bee, hundreds of employees were laid off as a result. However, the statement also offered assurances that Insurance the company will continue to write policies and serve current state customers through direct channels.
This comes after GEICO made the decision in April 2022 to suspend quotes at their call centers in several states – including California – and the effect of that decision is evident in the company’s quote data from the second quarter of the year.
