Big changes are coming for drivers in British Columbia!

During a live press conference on Monday, ICBC announced that customers will soon be able to renew their personal insurance policies online as well as their decal disposal plan.

The online process, which will be accessible via computer, tablet or mobile device, is set to launch on May 1, allowing eligible ICBC customers whose policies expire on or after that date to renew their policy online.

Although the official launch date is May 1, customers will be able to renew their insurance up to 44 days earlier. This means, for some, that they will be able to renew online as early as March 17.

In addition to renewing their personal auto insurance coverage, the online system will allow customers to change their address, request discounts, update the drivers listed on their policy and change how they use their vehicle.

“The online insurance renewal initiative provides British Columbians with a more convenient way to renew their ICBC auto insurance,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

“Working with the RCMP, British Columbia Police Services will improve and expand the automatic license plate recognition program that exists today.

May 1 will also mark the last day for drivers in British Columbia to display a license plate validation sticker on their car, similar to provinces such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and the Northwest Territories which did the same.

To ease the transition to decal removal, ICBC will make a one-time investment of $1 million to improve and expand the Automatic License Plate Recognition program, which helps law enforcement across British Columbia to detect illegal, unlicensed and uninsured drivers.

Insurance brokers will continue to offer their services in person and over the phone for those who prefer to do so in person or have additional questions.

“We know that online insurance renewals are something our customers have been waiting for, and we are happy to announce that we are on track to have this option going live next month,” said Nicolas Jimenez. , President and CEO of ICBC.

“Online insurance renewals add to the growing number of digital options available to customers, providing more convenience, choice and flexibility for British Columbians.”
